Waste Management Inc on Tuesday said it posted a nearly 45 percent increase in net profit, helped by strong pricing and cost savings.

The biggest U.S. trash hauler reported fourth-quarter net income of $315 million, or 64 cents per share, compared with $218 million, or 44 cents per share, a year earlier.

Revenue was $3.01 billion compared with $3.11 billion a year earlier.
