A video went gone viral Tuesday, which shows an Englishman getting up and walking casually towards a bar after being hit by a bus that lost control. The man was crossing a street in Reading, England, when the incident took place Saturday.

The CCTV footage showed Simon Smith walking along Gun Street in Reading, Berkshire, in southern England on Saturday morning, shortly after 9 a.m. EDT, when a double-decker bus veered uncontrollably onto the pavement before hitting him and throwing him along the sidewalk. The bus crashed in front of a store and its windshield broke into pieces.

However, onlookers were surprised after Smith lifted himself up immediately after he was thrown off-balance and casually walked towards the entrance of a popular pub, the Purple Turtle, where he worked, just a few steps away from the accident spot, BBC News reported.

Onlookers rushed Smith to a hospital soon after the accident and he was later released after being treated for minor injuries. His wife told the Telegraph that he was in a lot of pain. “He's suffering. He's on a lot of pain, he shouldn't be here,” Smith’s wife said, adding that his “recovery is the main thing.”

After the accident Smith went on to sit at the entrance of the pub and did not enter it, the pub clarified on its website. Smith told BBC South Today he felt “lucky to be alive.”

The bus company, Reading Buses, whose bus hit Smith on Saturday, released a statement Tuesday, saying it was “obviously shocked by the incident as well as the very graphic footage that has been shared a number of times,” ITV reported. Police authorities said no arrests had been made in connection to the accident yet.

“Thankfully, the pedestrian does not have any major injuries and there were no major injuries to passengers on the bus,” the statement read. “The incident is the subject of an ongoing internal investigation as well as an investigation by the police.”

“It’s absolutely shocking,” Daniel Fraifeld, co-owner of Purple Turtle told the BBC South Today. “I just can’t believe that Simon got up, dusted himself off and walked away from it. It’s a miracle that he’s alive.”

Stuart McNaught, the bar manager told the Telegraph: “We've known Simon for about 20 years. He went to hospital, he's ok he's a bit frail today, he's not feeling the best. He went to hospital the paramedics who called the ambulance took him. He's bruised and shocked I think. It's absolutely crazy.”

The Purple Turtle posted on its official Facebook page that the pub was not hit by the bus or damaged and it remains open.

Several users on social media who watched the video explained it as the latest indication of British nonchalance and resilience, referring to how the people in Britain recovered from the latest terrorist attacks.

“A fine example of Keeping Calm and Carrying On!” one person said on Facebook, responding to Purple Turtle’s post about being open after the accident.
