Square Enix is rolling out new updates for “Final Fantasy XV,” and one of them enables the previously announced Character Swap feature. Hence, installing the updates will allow players to switch between the different playable characters in the main game.

For players who have always wanted to switch to a different character in the main battle of the game, version 1.19 is the update you need to do this. Version 1.19 of “Final Fantasy XV” is the one that implements the Character Swap feature, which gives players the ability to switch to different playable characters during the main story of the open world action RPG.

When Square Enix launched the game back in November 2016, it introduced four main characters to fans. However, only Noctis was playable by default. With the rollout of version 1.19, players can now use the other three characters — Ignis, Gladio and Prompto — in battle and in the field throughout the game, as pointed out by DualShockers.

The Character Swap feature has restrictions though. Players are not allowed to swap between the four protagonists when they are in the Leviathan battle. For this game, players will have to play as Noctis only.

In late November, Square Enix teased during an “Active Time Report” stream that the ability to swap characters in “Final Fantasy XV” is coming this December. At the time, it was announced that the feature will be added to the game around the same time as the “Episode Ignis” DLC that’s scheduled for release on Wednesday, Dec. 13, as per Polygon.

Aside from the Character Swap feature, version 1.19 also comes with the following updates:

  • Conclusion of online support for timed quests
  • Addition of compatibility with “Episode Ignis”
  • Addition of pieces from “Multiplayer Expansion: Comrades” and “Episode Ignis” to music player tracklist
  • Various bug fixes

Square Enix has also released another update, version 1.20, for “Final Fantasy XV.” However, it wasn’t clear what this update specifically does for the release notes that came with it only indicated “various bug fixes.”

“Final Fantasy XV” is currently available for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles. The PC version of the game is expected to launch in early 2018. Additionally, three more episodes for the game are slated for release next year, including one that centers on Ardyn Izunia.
