A Bronx man reportedly robbed a fast food restaurant over the weekend but had what appeared to be little interest in the potential monetary haul. Instead, he made away with only a tray of fried chicken and biscuits from the restaurant in New York.

Authorities released video footage Sunday of a man reportedly stealing a tray of fried chicken and biscuits from the Texas Chicken And Burger restaurant on Brook Avenue and E.138th St. in the Bronx around 10:10 p.m. Thursday, police said.

Employees and customers looked on in astonishment as the thief jumped the counter and stuffed handfuls of chicken into a bag. He picked up a whole tray of fried chicken. Police said the thief then shoved an employee who attempted to stop him after he fled the restaurant.

Restaurant worker Preet Singh said the store was full of customers when the thief struck and filled up his bag with the food. Singh said he assumed the robbery was a prank and that someone was outside recording all of it on their smartphone.

"I thought he was playing," Singh told the New York Post Sunday. "Somebody coming for a robbery, he wants money, he doesn't want chicken."

Investigators described the fried chicken bandit as having long braided hair, and he was last seen wearing a black and pink shirt, blue jeans and blue sneakers. He also reportedly had a white towel wrapped around his head.

Authorities searching for the thief reported he had not yet been apprehended. Police are asked anyone with information regarding the incident to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS.
