There is no denying that with a three-hour run time the Emmy Awards are very long. With patience thinning, funnyman Will Ferrell spiced up the evening by presenting the final two awards of the night.

Introduced by 2013 Emmys host Neil Patrick Harris, Ferrell’s appearance was a little unusual for the award show. While a majority of men in the audience were looking dapper in a tux, Ferrell decided to opt for something that made him look like he was heading to a kids' soccer game rather than the biggest night in TV awards.

So, what did he wear? An eagle T-shirt that said “Run With The Spirit,” shorts and sneakers. The comedian also had three accessories: his young sons.

To be fair, the presenter did have a good excuse for his wardrobe … the drama of being a working dad!

“Hello, it is indeed an honor to be presenting the last two awards of the evening -- best comedy series and best drama series,” he said, stumbling over the words and appearing out of breath.

He was forced to stop for a minute when his two oldest sons began to whisper something.

“No, you cannot play “Angry Birds” right now,” Ferrell said to them, causing the audience to laugh. “No, just share the tablet. Fine, take turns. Thirty-second turns.”

Jumping back into presenting, Ferrell explained exactly what happened that evening: “Unfortunately Helen Mirren and Maggie Smith dropped out at the last second, and they called me literally 45 minutes ago. And uh … I couldn’t find childcare. Okay? We had a soccer game, there was a neighbor's birthday party, a nut allergy. I didn’t have time to do my hair. It doesn’t matter -- it’s great to be here. ”

After presenting “Modern Family” with the best comedy series, the hilarity with his sons continued. Check out the video below for some laughs: (Tune to the 3:40 mark to watch the second banter between Will Ferrell and his sons on stage.)
