New films usually are released on Fridays and by Monday we know which dominated the box office and which movies flopped. The movies this week vary from animated films to actions and suspense. While many believed Amanda Seyfried's Red Riding Hood would top the box office the honor went to Aaron Eckhart's Battle: Los Angeles. Here is a look at the top five movies of the weekend box office.

6. Battle Los Angeles, 7.6 million.
Battle: Los Angeles is a 2011 military science fiction war film featuring Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, Michael Peña, Ne-Yo, Ramon Rodriguez and Bridget Moynahan.Directed by Jonathan Liebesman,the movie slipped to No. 6 over the weekend but it has topped the box-office at its opening three weeks ago. The war film however is reported to battling its way in theatres overseas. Reuters
5. Rango
"Rango" came in fifth over the weekend box office with $9.8 million. The animated film is about a chameleon who accidentally winds up in the town of Dirt. Reuter
3. Red Riding Hood
"Red Riding Hood' opened at the third place in the weekend box office with $14.1 million. Starring "Mama Mia" actress Amanda Seyfried, this film is set in a medieval village that is haunted by a werewolf. Reuters
9. The Adjustment Bureau, 4.2 million.
Matt Damon's last film placed No. 9 at the box office over the weekend. The movie is about the affair between a politician and a ballerina and how it's affected by the mysterious forces that are trying to keep them apart. Reuters
10. Mars Needs Moms, 2.2 million.
Slipping down to No. 10 is 'Mars Needs Moms!'. The movie that opened with $6.8 million has raked in over two million dollars over the weekend. The film is about a boy named Milo and how he learns to appreciate his mother more after Martians come to Earth and take her away. Reuters
