Update Wednesday, 8:52 p.m. EST: The Ventura County, Ca. Health Care Agency confirmed Grabowski's death Wednesday evening. "Mercedes Grabowski died of asphyxia due to hanging. Manner is suicide," the agency's public information officer told International Business Times.

Canadian adult film actress August Ames died Tuesday in Camarillo, California, from unknown causes, Radar Online reported. On Wednesday, Hollywood Life reported that friends close to Ames said she may have taken her own life and had been suffering from depression.

The 23-year-old passed away days after receiving criticism for insensitive comments on social media.

Her husband, adult film director Kevin Moore, released a statement through Adult Video News. “She was the kindest person I ever knew and she meant the world to me," said Moore, who asked for privacy.

Ames posted on Twitter over the weekend that she would not be working with a man “who has shot gay porn,” adding, “I do my homework for my body.” The tweet drew a lot of attention from people calling her homophobic, an accusation she denied. Monday she tweeted that none of her intentions were malicious and she was simply looking out for her own health.

Ames, whose real name is Mercedes Grabowski according to IMDB.com, was born in Nova Scotia. She had more than 270 film credits since making her debut in 2013.
