Another internet challenge has started just in time for the New Year, but it comes with a stern warning from Netflix in the process. The new meme challenge craze is an offshoot of the binge-worthy “Bird Box” movie that has its characters wearing blindfolds or risk being killed by a monster.

The Sandra Bullock-led film has sparked the trend of people wearing blindfolds while trying to navigate their way around inside and outside – all while recording the entire experience. The results have led to injuries in some instances and has caused Netflix to issue the following warning to the movie’s fans.

"Can't believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE. We don't know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes,” the streaming service tweeted Wednesday.

The “Bird Box” movie has proven popular with Netflix fans as the company said it has been viewed by over 45 million accounts. It is the most-viewed Netflix original movie in its first seven days of airing, the company said.
