In a what is turning out to be a most bizarre missing persons case, there are still no solids leads that indicate what exactly happened to movie executive Gavin Smith.

Smith, who is known for having distributed blockbusters such as Titanic and Avatar, went missing on May 1, after reportedly returning from a conference in Las Vegas, NV.

While the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is investigating Smith's disappearance, reports indicate that the exec's Mercedes-Benz is missing along with him.

Smith's family and authorities have been unable to locate him either through cellphone records or credit card billings, according to the Los Angeles Times.

L.A. County Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore is also reporting that detectives investigating the missing person's case have so far found no concrete evidence, but are not ruling out foul play - a detail that begs the question of what really happened to Gavin Smith.

We're praying and hoping for the best, Smith's eldest son, Evan, told the LA Times on Thursday. It's all in God's hands, he added.

In a number of interviews with media outlets this week, Smith's family provided insight into the circumstances leading up to the night he vanished.

Lisa Smith told ABC News that she last spoke to her husband Tuesday, May 1, during the day to arrange plans for Wednesday morning for him to come pick up his son and take him to school. Lisa Smith was busy taking care of her mother, who is battling cancer, according to the interview.

As soon as I heard that he had not picked up Austin from school, that's when I said, 'There has to be something wrong.' What that is, I don't know. I don't know, Tara Addeo, Smith's sister, said in the family interview.

Gavin Smith was reportedly staying with a friend near Ventura County's Oak Park neighborhood on the night that the he vanished. He then apparently drove away in his Mercedes between 9 and 10 p.m. without telling anyone - another puzzling move, his family said.

The details describing the mysterious night hint at an internal conflict within the family. But when asked why he was staying with the female family friend instead of at the family home in West Hills, they declined to elaborate on the situation.

We're going to try and not talk about that, Evan Smith said, in an interview with Good Morning America.

Evan Smith, a Forward USC basketball, tweeted on April 14, Thoughts and prayers out to my amazing Mom and bros plz . . . My dad decided to leave the family last nite. Real family sticks together.

The tweet, which refers to a separate incident that took place in April, has since been deleted, but Evan Smith told E! News his parents were not separated.

In the interview with Good Morning America, Lisa Smith said that she had spoken with the family friend, and that when he left the house between 9 and 10 p.m, she doesn't believe that he was leaving for good.

She said he was relaxed, they were watching TV, they had sweet conversations and that he was going to be coming up to bed shortly, Lisa Smith said.

Wearing a pair of purple athletic pants belonging to one of his sons, Smith reportedly left behind his cellphone charger, shaving kit and other items.

That's what he was wearing, you know? It doesn't sound like he was going anywhere, Evan Smith told Good Morning America.

Authorities say he was driving his black 2000 Mercedes-Benz 420E with a storage rack on the roof, tinted windows and a California license plate number 6EKT044. Lisa Smith and family friends have searched for signs of the car in ravines or off-road locations, but have not been able to find anything, according to ABC News.

Evan Smith has been resorting to Twitter in order to spread the word on his father's disappearance. Meanwhile, the family has been trying to get the word out about Gavin's disappearance through Facebook and flyers posted around the area.

Still looking for him, I'll never stop, Evan Smith tweeted on Sunday.

WOW. So many people have come to my family's side in these times of despair and confusion. i thank each and everyone of you for your support, he wrote on Monday.

Gavin Smith is described as 6-feet-6, weighing 210 pounds, with green eyes, gray hair with blond streaks and a goatee. He has a 5-inch scar on his calf and a 4-inch scar on his inner right wrist.
