Ricky Martin is the latest addition to the cast of “American Crime Story” Season 3.

According to TV Line, the singer will play the role of Antonio D’Amico, the longtime partner of murdered fashion designer Gianni Versace. The casting marks Martin’s most high-profile acting gig since he starred in another one of Ryan Murphy’s TV shows, “Glee,” in 2012. At the time, Martin played the role of Will’s (Matthew Morrison) Spanish teacher.

“American Crime Story” Season 3 will consist of 10 episodes that will chronicle the life and death of the famed designer. Versace was assassinated by a serial killer named Andrew Cunanan in his home in Miami Beach 20 years ago. Versace’s installment in Murphy’s series will be heavily based on Maureen Orth’s book, “Vulgar Favors.”

Meanwhile, the lead role has been given to “The Bourne Ultimatum” star Edgar Ramirez. He and Martin will be joined by Penelope Cruz as Versace’s sister, Donatella, and Darren Criss as Cunanan. The production for “American Crime Story” is set to commence later this month, and the series will premiere sometime next year.

Earlier this year, Murphy spoke with People to explain why he chooses specific stories to be featured in his show. For instance, Murphy previously tackled O.J. Simpson’s hearing which had a social context to it. “Like O.J. had sexism and racism and all of that stuff and Versace-Cunanan has a huge amount of homophobia and celebrity worship – and why did that happen in the beginning of that culture,” he said.

But ahead of the Versace-Cunanan case, “American Crime Story” will first release a story about Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath. The second season of the hit FX series is expected to premiere sometime this year.
