Miles’ friend and colleague, Joe T Vannelli, posted message on Facebook, expressing his condolences.

"The tragic news of the death of a very talented artist of our time makes me incredulous and upset," he wrote. "I will miss the fights, brawls, criticism, judgments but especially your talent in finding sounds and melodies unparalleled."

Many on social media have also offered their thoughts and prayers on the passing of the legendary musician.

Miles was born in Switzerland on Nov. 3, 1969, to an Italian military family stationed there. He first set foot in his hometown of Fagagna, Italy, at the age of 10, according to a Billboard report.

Being a relatively private person, details about Miles' personal life have been so rare in the public eye, even a profile on him by Who’s Dated Who says: "We have no records of past relationships for Robert Miles."

As a teenager, Miles began learning to play the piano as well as DJing at local parties, clubs and radio networks. His 1996 debut album “Dreamland” was awarded platinum and gold honors. Soon enough, Miles was paving the way to the next generation of progressive music.

According to Indian Express, the track “Children” was developed as a calming track, intended to bring down the death toll in Italy at the time caused by alcohol, drugs and driving while drunk. Almost 2,000 residents had succumbed to their deaths between 1990 and 1996 due to not adhering to driving laws.

The inspiration behind the track came from a series of wartime pictures taken by Miles’ father when he was stationed at Yugoslavia. The simple instrumental track is said to have cost only £150 (almost $194) to produce, but had a major impact on people, according to a Guardian report.

Within a fortnight, the track had sold more than 350,000 copies across Europe. “Children” went on to become a chart-topper in many countries including Germany, France, Holland, and Belgium. It topped the Euro Top 100 chart for 13 weeks and also got into the Top 20 on the American pop charts.

It has now been labeled one of the best cult instrumental tracks of all times.

Miles released five official albums in his life, starting with “Dreamland” in 1996 followed by “23am” a year later. He returned with “Organik” in 2001, then “Miles_Gurtu” in 2004. His final album came 7 years later with “Th1rt3en” in 2011.

He gradually transitioned from a music composer to a producer towards the end of his life. Miles also launched Open Lab, a Balearic radio station that propagated the kind of music he came to be known for in his lifetime.
