Now that we’re halfway through March, you may ask yourself, “When does March Madness start?”

Don’t worry, you haven't missed out on the 2013 NCAA tournament just yet, even though we’re nearing April.

March Madness begins on Tues., March 19. And right about now is the time to start preparing for the tournament, because on Sunday, March 17, a field of 68 teams will be announced during Selection Sunday. You can watch the selection show 6 p.m. Eastern Time on CBS or online by clicking here, where you can also watch every game with your bracket in hand (don’t forget to fill out your bracket here.)

The term “March Madness” is somewhat of a misnomer, because the 2013 NCAA tournament runs until April 8, when a champion will be crowned in Atlanta.

The tournament is also known as the “Big Dance,” and underdog teams that make successful runs that defy the odds are referred to as “Cinderellas” for their fairytale-like achievements of defeating powerhouse college basketball schools.

The 2013 NCAA tournament is widely expected to be one of the most exciting versions of the Big Dance, with no clear overall No. 1 seed as we inch closer to Selection Sunday. By comparison, three of the four No. 1 seeds in 2012 -- Kentucky, Syracuse and North Carolina -- were foregone conclusions. Kentucky didn't exactly shock the college basketball world when the Wildcats won last year’s tournament.

"A year ago, I think the one line of the tournament and bracket was in pretty clear focus," Mike Bobinski, chairman of the tournament’s selection committee, told the Associated Press. "This year looks a little bit different. I anticipate there will be a number of teams we'll be considering and discussing for that one line of the bracket."
