MAC has relaunched its Heroine lipstick, a bright-violet matte lipstick released last year as a part of the company's Reel Sexy collection. There were four lipsticks with the collection, and Heroine quickly sold out as purple-lip-lovers purchased the bold shade.
Makeup artist Nick Barose says about Heroine, “The blue tone in the orchid makes it dramatic, but in terms of bold lip color, it's easy and flattering to wear." Due to the lipstick's popularity, MAC restocked it online Dec. 16 on maccosmetics.com -- and the timing is perfect as Pantone just announced its color of the year as Radiant Orchid, a drastic change from last year’s color of the year, emerald.
While the pre-launch is in full effect, Heroine will be available in stores Jan. 2, 2014; online Jan. 16 for international locations; and March 6 for international in-store locations.
Scared of trying a dark lipstick? Make Up For Ever Managing Educator Jessie Powers provided tips on how to pull off the look. “The key to doing a dark lip color is making sure the rest of your makeup is really in harmony with that lip. Keep it fairly minimal on the rest of your face,” he tells Dailymakeover.com. But Powers recommends the lipstick only if you have fuller lips.
“If you have really thin lips, I don’t recommend a dark lipstick," he says. "Dark colors minimize, whereas light colors are going to volumize... If you have naturally voluminous lips or regular lips, go for it.”
