Where Is Kel Mitchell Now? Actor Reunites With Kenan Thompson For ‘Good Burger’ Sketch

“Good Burger” was the latest product of the ‘90s to host a reunion. The original stars, Kel Mitchell and Kenan Thompson, starred in the sketch on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” Wednesday. While Thompson has been a regular on “Saturday Night Live” for 12 years, it was the first time many viewers had seen Mitchell in quite a while. We couldn’t help but wonder where the former Nickelodeon star has been up to in recent years.

It seems that Mitchell didn’t leave Hollywood. After five years on “All That,” four years on “Kenan & Kel” and a “Good Burger” movie, the actor continued to work on children’s programs. Once he aged out of many of the kids’ roles, he started to spend more time in the recording booth. Mitchell has worked on several family-oriented cartoons. His voice has been in several “Clifford the Big Red Dog” programs as well as “Pink Panther & Pals” and “Motorcity.” This year, Mitchell’s voice was featured in “Da Jammies” and “Wild Grinders.”

Kids' programs weren't always a priority for the actor. Mitchell was almost Thompson’s co-star on “SNL.” The actor auditioned for the show in 2003. “I think it's hilarious now thinking about it, but now doing standup and being good at it now, I realize now what I did was not good,” Mitchell revealed on Reddit in February. “But basically I did this joke about DMX - if DMX was in ‘TOY STORY.’ It was so bad, it was good, to me. And I remember Tina Fey was there, and I remember afterwards she was like ‘Good job!’ but I think it was a little too crazy for ‘SNL.’”

Even though he never made it to “Saturday Night Live,” Mitchell still appeared in several other live-action comedies. The actor wrote, directed and starred in the 2012 film “She Is Not My Sister.” He has also had guest spots on live-action kid shows like “Good Luck Charlie,” “Sam & Cat” and “Liv & Maddie.”

It seems the “Good Burger” skit hasn’t been Mitchell’s only recent reunion, though. The 37-year-old recently teamed up with Nickelodeon and Dan Schneider, who co-created “All That,” “Kenan & Kel” and “Good Burger.” He is a series regular on Nickelodeon’s new sitcom “Game Shakers." He plays a rapper who becomes a business partner with kids who have created a successful app.

“If someone were making a list of the Top 10 funniest comedy actors today, Kel Mitchell easily makes that list,” Schneider told Variety in July. “It’s a privilege to work with anyone that talented. It’s the same kind of feeling I’ve had in the past, working with entertainers like Jack Black and Jim Parsons. But with Kel, there’s also this great nostalgic feeling as we work together now.”

In his personal life, Mitchell has become a devout Christian as well as a husband and a father. He has a daughter, Allure, and a son, Lyric, from his first marriage to Tyisha Hampton-Mitchell. He married rapper Asia Lee in 2012. Mitchell also told the Huffington Post that, much like his character on “Kenan & Kel,” he still drinks plenty of orange soda even when he’s at home.
