On Sunday night, Korean pop boy band BTS surprised many viewers when they beat Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez and Ariana Grande for the top social artist award at the Billboard Music Awards at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

“We still can’t believe that we’re standing here on this stage at the Billboard Music Awards,” the group said during the ABC show. They added, “It’s so great to see all the artists we admire. To be in this category with such great artists, just really honored.”

While the group may be a big hit on social media, they’re not exactly a mainstream act yet. Following the group’s win, here are few things you need to know about BTS:

They’re Also Known As Bangtan Boys

While you may think BTS stands for behind-the-scenes, the group's name actually stands for the Korean words, Bangtan Sonyeondan, which translates to Bulletproof Boy Scouts. In Japanese, the group is called Bōdan Shōnendan, which also translates to Bulletproof Boy Scouts.

The Group Features Seven Members

The K-Pop genre is known for its large groups and BTS is no different. The group features seven members who include: Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Rap Monster, Jimin, V and Jungkook. The group originally began in 2011 but went through several lineup changes before settling on one in 2012.

They Have Released Four Albums

Since making their debut in 2013, BTS has gone on to release four studio albums. Selling an estimated four million albums worldwide, the group has released albums in Korean and Japanese. BTS also has four compilation albums under their belt and another four EPs.

They Have No Plans To Release An English Album

While the group has put out records in Japanese and Korean, don’t hold your breath for an English album. According to People, BTS doesn’t intend on putting out an English project any time soon. But while they won’t be singing in English, the group still tours the United States, having made stops in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York City.

Some Members Had Careers Before The Group

For some members of BTS, being in a boy band wasn’t their first taste of fame. Before joining the group, Rap Monster was already an underground rapper who had released his own tracks. Like Rap Monster, Suga was also an underground rapper in the city of Daegu. J-Hope was also a member of the underground scene but as a member of the dance team NEURON.

The Group Loves To Donate

In 2015, BTS more than 7,000 kilograms of rice for charity at the K-Star Road opening ceremony. Two years later, the group and their record label, Big Hit Entertainment, donated 100,000,000 Korean won to the Sewol Families for Truth and A Safer Society. Each member of the group donated 10,000,000 Korean won of their own money.
