Dicarlo Bennett has been identified as the suspect allegedly responsible for placing the dry ice bombs that were discovered throughout Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) earlier this week.

The 28-year-old resident of South Los Angeles works for Servisair, a company that provides ground services at LAX, according to the Los Angeles Times. According to a Facebook page for Dicarlo Bennett, he worked as a ramp supervisor for Servisair. The Facebook page also indicates that the suspect studied at Santa Monica College and attended Alexander Hamilton High School in Los Angeles.

Authorities were led to Bennett because the dry ice bombs were found in locations that cannot be accessed by the public. The investigation focused on airport employees, especially workers who can access the airport’s tarmac, according to the Times.

According to the Associated Press, Bennett made the first dry ice bomb by taking dry ice from a plane, putting it in a bottle, and placing the device in an employee restroom on Sunday night. A second such bomb was found on the tarmac outside LAX’s international terminal. Both of those exploded but caused no injury. The bombs were discovered by an LAX employee, who also found a third device Monday night that had not detonated. He then contacted authorities, which led to the investigation and arrest of Bennett on Tuesday, on suspicion of possessing and exploding a destructive device near an aircraft, the LAPD told the Times. He remained in custody, held on $1 million bail, as of early Wednesday morning.

Before Bennett’s arrest, authorities were exploring the possibility that the dry ice bombs were terrorism-related incidents, but they also investigated whether the devices were the work of a disgruntled employee.

LAPD Chief Charlie Beck said either way, authorities were taking the dry ice bombs seriously.

"Whether you think this is a harmless prank or a way to disrupt operations at the airport, it won't matter," Beck told the Times. "You will go to jail."
