Jhené Aiko’s complicated love life is making headlines again after reports surfaced that she filed for divorce from record producer, Dot Da Genius. The news came as a surprise to most fans because the 28-year-old singer had never publicly confirmed that she was a married woman.

To further complicate things, Aiko has been rumored to be in a relationship with rapper Big Sean for some time now. According to E! News, Aiko filed for divorce on Tuesday citing “irreconcilable differences” and asking a judge not to allow Dot Da Genius to seek spousal support. The outlet also reported that Aiko listed her marriage date as July 26, 2014 and stated that they separated in June 2015.

So who is Dot Da Genius? It appears that Aiko never gave any interviews about her marriage or husband, but Dot Da Genius is pretty well known in the music industry for creating beats for several artists. Check out four things to know about the producer below.

  1. His real name is Oladipo Omishore and he’s from Brooklyn, New York. Professionally, he goes by the name Dot Da Genius and in a previous interview with Sound of Sound explained how he came up with the name. According to the outlet, he chose “genius” because that’s what people used to call him while he was studying electrical engineering at Polytechnic University in New York. He combined that with “dot” because he used to shorten his first name to O. since it was easier for people to pronounce.
  2. His relationship with Aiko goes back several years, but they didn’t confirm their marriage until May when he tweeted a birthday message to her calling her his “gorgeous wife.” He also took to Instagram to share a photo from their wedding day, but the post has since been deleted.
  3. He’s close friends with rapper Kid Cudi and is mostly known for producing Cudi’s hit song “Day ‘n’ Nite.” Dot Da Genius and Cudi went on to form the rock band WZRD and released an album of the same name in February 2012.
  4. He has a daughter. During an interview with Complex in 2012, Dot Da Genius revealed that his daughter is a fan of Cudi and one of her favorite songs is “Trapped In My Mind.” He said: “I really like that record. That’s one of my daughter’s favorite records from that album too. And this is not even me with propaganda, like, ‘Look, Daddy made this song, you gotta like it.’ But the melody and the vibe of it she immediately gravitated to.” Dot Da Genius often posts about his daughter on his Instagram page.

Happy 7th birthday my love!
