A high school teacher in Ohio was charged in connection with having a sexually inappropriate relationship with a student.

The suspect was identified as 30-year-old Hilary Dattilo, who was a teacher and volleyball coach at Hamilton High School before she was charged Tuesday in Butler County Common Pleas Court, as reported by CBS-affiliated television station, WHIO-TV.

The reports stated Dattilo was charged with one count of sexual battery, which is a third-degree felony, along with one count of contributing to the wrongdoing of a minor, which is a first-degree misdemeanor. The crimes Dattilo has been accused of involve a female student.

According to Hamilton Police Sgt. Brian Robinson, the alleged incident took place in the school premises.

Speaking about how the officials got to know about the alleged incident, Robinson said, “A mother of a student at Hamilton High School was concerned about a possible inappropriate relationship that a staff member was having with her daughter, so she notified the school administrators at Hamilton High School," reported WLWT-TV, an NBC-affiliated television station.

As per the indictment, the supposed crimes occurred between Oct. 1 and Dec. 18, 2017.

Dattilo hails from Monroe, Missouri, and according to the report has been working in the school since August 2017. Along with being a science teacher, Dattilo was an assistant coach for the school's varsity volleyball team and the head coach for the junior varsity team, according to the Hamilton School District. She played volleyball professionally too.

As of now, Dattilo was out on bail, which was set at $5,000, even though her attorney argued for a low bond, stating she did not have a criminal history and was a woman living in Butler County, Ohio, with strong family ties. Both Dattilo’s mother and her husband were also present at the arraignment. Dattilo’s bail was posted at $5,000 a little after she was booked into the Butler County Jail.

In response to the allegations against one of their own staff, Hamilton City Schools released a statement: “Parents entrust their children to us every day, which is something we take very seriously. The safety of children is always our first priority. As a result of an ongoing investigation conducted collaboratively with the Hamilton City Police Department, the Hamilton City School District has placed a teacher at Hamilton High School on administrative leave pending termination proceedings. Simply put, we will not tolerate behavior that places our children in jeopardy. Because this is a criminal case, we will respectfully defer questions to the police and prosecuting attorney's office.”

Dattilo’ pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to appear in court for the next hearing on Feb. 8 in front of before Judge Noah Powers, WHIO-TV reported.
