Kenneth Mosher was identified as the victim killed by former “Bachelor” star and “Dancing with the Stars” contestant Chris Soules in Aurora, Iowa, Monday. He was 66 years old.

Soules, 35, knew the victim. “Everyone around here is in shock,” Richard Roepke, who is related to Mosher, told Radar Online in an exclusive interview Tuesday. “He knew them, they’re neighbors. We’re feeling very sad, everyone knows Chris’ family.”

Soules rear-ended Mosher’s trailer, forcing the vehicle into a ditch with his pick-up truck. The former reality TV star ditched the scene. Hours later, he was arrested by police.

Roepke said alcohol containers were found at the scene of the crime and was not surprised. “It’s Chris’ age and generation, it’s not right,” Roepke said. “It was huge mistake. That will haunt him for the rest of his life.”

Mosher’s relative put full blame on the former “Bachelor” star. “Chris has created his own problems,” Roepke said. “This is life changing for him. He has to deal with it himself. This isn’t the direction his family wanted him to go in.”

One of the things that left Roepke puzzled was why Soules left the accident. “This is something he has to share and the rest of us can only speculate. He may have known Kenny was already gone at that point,” the neighbor mused. “What was going through his head? It is a bad day.”

His family owned the farm area where the accident occurred. Hours before the crash, Soules posted a picture to social media of himself working on the farm, KCRG-TV reported. The pictures has since been deleted.

Mosher’s family owns the part of the farmland where the crash happened, the news outlet noted.

Soules was released on $10,000 bond. He was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal crash, KCRG-TV reported Thursday. At the time this article was written, it was unknown how Soules pleaded.

It’s not the first time Soules was involved with the law. He was arrested in 2005 for an Operating While Intoxicated (OWI), in 2010 he had a registration violation, an open container charge in 2001 and in 2002 a copped a ticket for unlawful use of license.

Soules did not immediately issue a statement.
