Sherri Shepherd’s husband, Lamar Sally, reportedly filed for divorce on May 2 and wants full legal and physical custody of their unborn child, Us Weekly reported on Saturday. Their unborn baby is due via surrogate delivery this summer. A source told the news site that Shepherd had kept her marriage woes secret from the people around her.

"The baby is not something she was ready to discuss at all," the insider told Us Weekly. "She had to have known things weren't going well with Sal, so [she] didn't want to say anything."

"Everyone is in shock," the source added. "He stopped coming around. She really kept everything quiet."

The cohost of "The View," 47, married Sally at the Fairmont Hotel in Chicago in August 2011. A year later, the ABC star said on the “Rachael Ray” show that she and her husband were thinking about using a surrogate.

"I don't know how we're going to have this baby, because I'm in my forties and I can't even remember my first son's name," Shepherd said in 2012. "But I'm going to have another baby because I'm feeling good."

Shepherd has a son, Jeffrey, 8, whose father is her ex-husband, Jeff Tarpley.

According to HollywoodLife.com, Jay Tucker introduced the couple to one another. Tucker is married to Shepherd’s friend Niecy Nash. Before they were married in August 2011, Shepherd and Sally dated for a year after Sally placed an engagement ring in a dish of M&Ms. Sally, who goes by the nickname “Sal,” is a television writer best known for “Rodney” and “It’s My Time to Talk.”

It’s unknown why Sally filed for divorce. Fox News reported that Shepherd’s reps didn’t respond to comment via email. In an article by HollywoodLife.com, the news site speculated about whether cheating was to blame for the split.
