Former reality television star and White House aide in the administration of President Donald Trump, Omarosa Manigault Newman, resigned Tuesday evening, according to the White House.

She resigned to “pursue other opportunities,” and was expected to officially vacate her position as assistant to the president and director of communications for the Office of Public Liaison at the White House in January, the statement said.

Manigault Newman was married earlier this year at the Trump International Hotel in Washington, D.C. to Pastor John Allen Newman. The couple originally planned to wed in Florida in March but the plans for the wedding were altered after Manigault Newman received death threats, Politico reported. The couple has no children.

The two met while she was teaching at Howard University and were engaged in July 2016 after Pastor Newman proposed at his church in Jacksonville, Florida, The Sanctuary @ Mt.Calvary, US Weekly reported. Manigault Newman was licensed to preach in 2011 and was ordained afterwards, according to The Sanctuary @ Mt. Cavalry.

Manigault Newman was married once before to Aaron Stallworth. The marriage lasted five years and Manigault Newman attributed to its eventual end to the lack of support she was able to give her husband, she told People in 2005.

Manigault Newman gained fame and formed a close relationship with Trump when she was on his show "The Apprentice" in 2004. She subsequently went on to work on his campaign for president. Since news of her departure broke, rumors have swirled around the circumstances under which the decision was made for her to vacate her post. When asked whether she was fired or if she resigned, she apparently hung up on one reporter and said she would have to call him back, he tweeted.
