Rep. Trent Franks, R-Ariz., is resigning from congress amid sexual harassment rumors, according to an Associated Press report. Initial reports of his resignation did not give a reason why, but new details are emerging.

Trent and Josephine Franks have been married since 1980. Josephine is an immigrant who speaks four languages, according to a 2013 Fox News report. In 2008, Trent and Josephine Franks used in vitro fertilization courtesy of a donor egg and surrogate to conceive their twin children. A Reaganite Republican, Franks’s platform has long held that human life begins at conception, as he has introduced a bill to ban abortions after 20 weeks.

Franks said he is coming under investigation for talking to two former female staffers of his about being surrogates for his children. In a statement tweeted by Politico's Kyle Cheney, Franks admits what he did was inappropriate and claims he is stepping down not due to the severity of his actions, but because he feels his story would be unfairly sensationalized by an investigation.
