“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host Jimmy Kimmel will host the oscars in 2017. Kimmel confirmed the good news on Twitter. The Hollywood Reporter was the first publication to report the news.

ABC’s late-night talk show host has been riding on a high. Not only did he host the Emmys twice – in 2012 and 2016 – but his performance at the Emmys received good reviews. The 49-year-old comedian has also hosted the ESPYs in 2007 and the American Music Awards on five different occasions. But this will be the first time he will be hosting the Oscars.

Previous hosts of the Academy Awards include Chris Rock, Seth MacFarlane, Ellen DeGeneres and Neil Patrick Harris.

Rock hosted in 2016 to an audience that totaled to 34.3 million viewers which is almost triple the amount of audiences that watch the Primetime Emmy Awards.

Apparently, ABC wanted Kimmel to host the 89th Academy Awards next year. He has been with the alphabet network since 2003.

Is Kimmel a good choice? Here are five reasons why he is:

1. He’s Got A Great Sense Of Humor

Remember when he told “Downton Abbey” winner Maggie Smith that they will hold her Emmy award till she comes to the U.S. to take it? Or when he told “Empire” actress Taraji P. Henson to drop the P in her name? Kimmel has a great sense of humor!

2. The Emmys Were Immensely Entertaining

If there is one thing the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host knows, it’s how to put on a show. Getting the “Stranger Things” kids to deliver his mother’s peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to the star-studded audiences garnered many laughs and quietened some starving stomachs in the process.

3. He’s Brutally Honest

Kimmel isn’t shy to tell it like it is. At the Emmys, the comedian asked the audience, “Who is to blame for Donald Trump?” He was, of course, was pointing to Mark Burnett, the creator of “The Apprentice.”

4. He’s All For Diversity

When Kimmel introduced the talk show category, he pointed out that all the nominees, including him, were white males.

The 89th Academy Awards will air live on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2017 on ABC.
