Jenny Slate and Chris Evans broke up, but there doesn’t seem to be any bad blood between the two. The “Gifted” stars have made it clear that they’re on good terms. Slate, who is more candid than her ex, recently praised Evans but also revealed that their differences led to the breakup.

In an interview with Vulture, Slate recounted how her relationship with Evans started and how shocked she was that the “Captain America” star, who previously dated Minka Kelly and Jessica Biel, was interested in her. However, she also noted that his level of fame was a bit too intense for her.

“Chris is a very, very famous person,” she says. “For him to go to a restaurant is totally different than for me to go. I sit in my window and I say ‘Hi’ to people on the street. I have more freedom because I’m not Captain America. I’m mostly a cartoon.”

Apparently, Slate never really adjusted to the attention. “This is what I needed to do to feel normal. To be alone,” she said.

Slate is living the single life for the first time in years. She noted that it wasn’t just Evans’ celebrity that led her to want some alone time. She got together with him just months after separating from her husband nearly 4 years, Dean Fleischer-Camp (their divorce was finalized earlier this year), and she didn’t necessarily take time to mourn that relationship.

“I didn’t think very hard about that, to be honest. I wanted to step into the light. Chris is a sunny, loving, really fun person, and I didn’t really understand why I should be prudent,” she noted.

She mentioned that they don’t talk much currently, but she isn’t afraid of the press tour she’s about to embark on with him to promote “Gifted,” out April 12. She’s hoping to be friends with him eventually. “We’re not on bad terms, but we haven’t really seen each other, spoken a lot,” she revealed. “I think it’s probably best. I’d love to be his friend one day, but we threw down pretty hard. No regrets, though. Ever.”

Evans and Slate’s differences are apparent even in the way they talk about their relationship. While Slate delved into the details, Evans recently shut down an Esquire reporter who wanted to ask about his “Gifted” co-star. “Yeah,” he said when asked if they dated, “but I’m steering clear of those questions.”
