It was announced Tuesday that actor George Clooney was named a witness in the high-profile prostitution trial of the Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Berlusconi.
It seems odd since I've only met Berlusconi once and that [was] in an attempt to get aid into Darfur, Clooney told People.com in a statement.
The 74-year-old Prime Minister is making international headlines since he is being accused of paying for sex with a 17-year-old girl from Morocco named Ruby. He is also accused of using his political power to cover it up.
Berlusconi has denied all the charges. A trial is set to begin on April 6 in Milan.
The Associated Press reported that Clooney, who owns a villa on Lake Como, Italy, was on the witness list because the Moroccan girl claims he, along with his Italian girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis, were at one of Berlusconi's parties.
It is not yet known how this information would be relevant in the trial.
