Now in it’s 42nd season, “Saturday Night Live” is enjoying its best season in more than 20 years, and much of its success can be credited to Alec Baldwin, who has portrayed President Donald Trump.

With the season coming to an end on May 20, many are wondering if Baldwin will continue playing Trump when “SNL” returns for Season 43. During a recent feature in The Hollywood Reporter, who was only signed on for Season 42, commented on his future with the NBC series.

According to Baldwin, he would love to continue playing Trump next season but said his availability may make that difficult. “Look, I’d love to keep doing this per my availability, but I have other things I’m going to do, so I guess we’ll figure it out,” he told THR.

But even with a busy schedule, which includes starring in a Lamborghini biopic alongside Antonio Banderas, Baldwin still thinks there’s a way he can be featured on “SNL.” The actor said, “If I’m doing a film in Rome in the fall, you can bet I’m going to be on a satellite from Rome doing Trump.”

How a remote skit from Rome would work is yet to be seen, but Baldwin does have an idea. Doing his famous Trump impression, the actor told the publication, “We’re going to tear down the Pantheon. These paintings all gotta go. They’re disgusting. By the way, this place is filled with Italians. Italy is wall to wall Italians.”

And if that doesn’t work, Baldwin thinks “SNL’s” executive producer, Lorne Michaels, may have to put a few phone calls in. “I have a lot of things I’m supposed to do,” the actor said. “I’m sure Lorne will find ways to kill them. He’ll call the producer: ‘You know he can’t kiss his wife in the scene because of that disease he has.’”

While the latest season will come to an end on May 20, fans of the series will still be able to get their “SNL” fix when “Saturday Night Live: Weekend Update” hits the air. NBC ordered a four-week run of the popular segment that will begin airing in August.

The series will star regular co-anchors Colin Jost and Michael Che and will also feature appearances from other “SNL” cast members. “‘SNL’ is having its best season in a quarter of a century — how many shows can say that?! — so we didn’t want them to take the summer off,” Robert Greenblatt, Chairman of NBC Entertainment, said in a statement.

“We’re thrilled to have Colin Jost and Michael Che continuing their unique brand of news with fresh ‘Weekend Update’ shows in primetime this August,” the statement continued. The series will premiere on Thursday, Aug. 10 at 9 p.m.

The series has tried its hand at primetime “Weekend Update” specials in the past, including in 2008 and 2009. The segment also had a few specials during the 2016 Democratic and Republican National Conventions that were uploaded to YouTube.
