Will Chelsea Handler Go To Netflix After ‘Chelsea Lately’ Wraps On E! In August?

Late-night talk show host Chelsea Handler is saying goodbye to cable and maybe hello to Netflix.

After months of rumors that Handler, 39, was looking to pull the plug on her E! late-night TV series “Chelsea Lately,” the network confirmed her exit on Wednesday.

“We are very proud of Chelsea Lately’s long-running success,” E!'s President Suzanne Kolb said. “Chelsea brought a distinct voice to late night with her acerbic wit and fearless commentary and we look forward to providing fans with a memorable send-off that lives up to that tradition.”

“Chelsea Lately” airs weeknights on E! at 11 p.m. EDT. An hour-long final episode will air on Aug. 26, E! said.

In recent years, Handler hasn’t been shy about expressing her displeasure about working at the cable network, but she did admit to a bit of nostalgia on Wednesday.

“I myself am more surprised than anyone that I was able to hold down a job for seven years and it was a fantastic seven years,” Handler said in a statement. “I am will always look back at my time on E! as most people look back at their time in college. I’m glad I went.”

What's next for Handler? She hasn't said, but her manager, Irving Azoff, has hinted at her maybe joining another network or perhaps a “digital service“ like Netflix.

“She hired me to figure out her life after E! We have at least seven suitors and many ideas,” Azoff told The Hollywood Reporter in April after The New York Post claimed Netflix was close to sealing a deal with the E! star.

Handler has previously spoken about her respect for the streaming media company, which has produced several critically acclaimed series like “House of Cards” and “Orange Is the New Black.”

“I love Netflix,” Handler told Piers Morgan in March. “I think they’ve done a great job with Netflix. I watch a lot of shows on Netflix only because I can’t figure out how to turn on my regular television.”
