Three times Leonardo DiCaprio has been nominated for his acting abilities by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and three times he has walked away without a win. Following his "Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role" nomination last week for his work in the Martin Scorsese film "The Wolf of Wall Street," experts are now weighing in on the longtime performer's chances of finally winning an Oscar this year.

Despite earning rave reviews on his portrayal of corrupt Wall Street broker Jordan Belfort in the biographical crime drama, and his win at the Golden Globes for "Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy" earlier this month, WhatCulture.com says the 39-year-old actor's lack of box-office bombs will cause him to lose to one of his fellow nominees. "Even if his movies didn’t fare very well ("J. Edgar," "Revolutionary Road"), his performances in them have been critically well-liked. In a weird way, it helps to have a dud or a knowing foray into the world of less-reputable cinema in order to distinguish a performance," reads the report, which added that the Academy may favor DiCaprio's competition due to his lack of role variety. "He lacks variety in his performances, and the Oscars like to award performances that take actors out of their comfort zones," says the report.

Despite some critics' predictions that DiCaprio won't pick up a statue at the March event, VanityFair claims it is the former child star's turn to be recognized by the Academy. "Oscar voters like to reward actors who haven’t won in a long time, if ever," claims the publication, which goes on to say that it's up to the studio behind the flick to score DiCaprio a win. "This year, Paramount would be crazy not to use the same tactic in a balls-out effort to score an Academy Award for Leonardo DiCaprio."

The critics have their views, but what do fans of the former "Titanic" star think? According to recent social media posts regarding the actor's nomination, fans are dying to see a win for "The Wolf of Wall Street" actor. "If Leonardo DiCaprio doesn't win an Oscar this year, I will find the people who made the wrong decision and I will burn their houses down," said Twitter user @sophhskii Sunday. "If Leonardo DiCaprio doesn't win this Oscar, then the whole awards system is nothing but a Shem!" posted user @Thulsia14 Monday.

DiCaprio was nominated by the Academy for his work in the films "What's Eating Gilbert Grape" in 1994, "The Aviator" in 2005, and "Blood Diamond" in 2007.

The 86th annual Academy Awards event airs live on March 2 on ABC starting at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.
