The trailer shows a haggard-looking Damon speaking to a camera after being abandoned on Mars. He is also seen planting and growing food, communicating with his ground crew and tracking the number of days in solitude. “The Martian” will be distributed by 20th Century Fox and will reach theaters on Nov. 25. Actors Kristen Wiig, Donald Glover, Sean Bean, Owen Wilson, Sebastian Stan and Jeff Daniels will also appear in the film.

As revealed by 20th Century Fox at CinemaCon, the annual convention of the National Association of Theatre Owners, which took place in Las Vegas on April 24, the plot revolves around Damon’s character, astronaut Mark Watney, who is presumed dead after being caught in a violent storm on Mars. Watney is left behind on the red planet, while the remaining crew evacuates and travels back to earth. The astronaut must survive on his own, with only a few supplies, until he is rescued.

Production of the sci-fi movie began on Nov. 10, 2014, in Budapest. Five months later, filming took place in southern Jordan at Wadi Rum, according to KFTV. The area is also known as the Valley of the Moon, a popular landscape used in films like “Red Planet,” “Prometheus,” “The Last Days on Mars” and “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.”
