Will (Laurie Davidson) has an unexpected visitor in Season 1, episode 5 of “Will.”

As revealed in the trailer for next week’s episode of the TNT drama, Will gets a surprise visit from his wife Anna (Deirdre Mullins), who comes to London with their three children, Susanna (Cleopatra Dickens), Hamnett (Leonardo Dickens) and Judith (Cleopatra Dickens). Alice (Olivia DeJonger) meets Anna, and it doesn’t take that much time before Mrs. Shakespeare seemingly finds out that Will is having an affair with the copyist.

“You made a vow,” Anna reminds her husband. “Please come home.”

While it’s unclear whether the budding playwright will leave London soon, it seems that he has already decided to put an end to his forbidden relationship with Alice. “I love you but I must do what is right,” Will tells Alice in the trailer.

Meanwhile, as revealed in the synopsis for the episode, Topcliffe (Ewen Bremner) deciphers a code that throws Will into a life and death situation. Does this mean Topcliffe has already figured out that Will is Southwell’s cousin?

In Season 1, episode 4, Topcliffe realized that Southwell’s real threat to Protestant Elizabethan England is in his writings. So after torturing a believer of One True Faith to death after refusing to disclose information about Southwell, the most dangerous man in England thought of securing a writer for himself to use as “weaponry in the war against papacy.”

Given Will’s rising fame following the success of his play “The Two Gentlemen of Verona” and his ability to appeal to the masses, Topcliffe decides that the playwright is the perfect man for the job. At the end of this week’s episode, Topcliffe sent some of his men to get Will for him. Although Will is well aware that doing business with Topcliffe is a perilous feat, Will agreed to meet with Topcliffe in an effort to ensure the safety of Alice and her family. But how will Southwell react when he finds out that Will is working with Topcliffe?

Elsewhere in next week’s episode, a transcendental experience leads Marlowe (Jamie Campbell Bower) to deal with his past.

“Will” Season 1, episode 5, titled “The Marriage of True Minds,” airs on Monday, July 31 at 9 p.m. EDT on TNT.
