After reports earlier surfaced that “Suicide Squad” star Will Smith will be joining Disney’s “Dumbo” remake, a new one came out recently that he will be portraying the lovable Genie in the upcoming live action remake of “Aladdin.”

According to Entertainment Weekly, the actor is in early talks to play the Genie. In the Disney animated film, the Genie was voiced by the late Robin Williams.

Disney is quite busy with its live action remakes, following the success of “Maleficent,” “Cinderella” and “Beauty and the Beast.” For “Aladdin,” the powerhouse company has enlisted “Sherlock Holmes” filmmaker Guy Ritchie to direct a script written by John August.

As for the other characters of the film, it seems like Disney has not yet made any decisions. There is still no word on who will play the titular character, Princess Jasmine, and the villainous Jafar.

Aside from those films already mentioned, the Daily Mail reported that Disney is also working on remakes of “Mulan,” “Peter Pan” and “The Little Mermaid.”

For “The Little Mermaid,” former child star Lindsay Lohan has expressed her desire to make an acting comeback by portraying the princess of the sea. Lohan even teased fans about “The Little Mermaid” when she shared a photo collage on Instagram showing her beside the animated Ariel. The actress said that she’s willing to take on the role of Ariel if Disney gets “Beauty and the Beast” director Bill Condon to direct.

For his part, Condon was touched by Lohan’s statement and said he hopes she gets the role. “It was sweet, it was very sweet of her. I hope she gets to make that movie. I feel like I was so lucky in getting this crown jewel, but I’ll go see her in ‘Little Mermaid,’ absolutely,” he told Vulture of the actress.
