Attorney General William Barr blamed “militant secularists” and “the alleged progressives” for the ills plaguing American society.

In a speech delivered at t the University Dame’s Law School on Friday, Barr said: “The campaign to destroy the traditional moral order has coincided and I believe has brought with it immense suffering and misery. And yet the forces of secularism, ignoring these tragic results, press on with even greater militancy."

Barr is a devout Catholic and his rants against the Socialists come even as the Far Left seems to be the driving force behind the Democrats’ impeachment push against President Donald Trump.

With the impeachment effort expected to deeply polarize America and Trump expected to exploit the division as well as the ideological pull of the Democratic Party toward the left, Barr’s invoking of Christian values seem to have political aims.

“This is not decay, “ Barr said, characterizing as “moral upheaval” the rise in drug use, alienation and children born out of wedlock.

“This is organized destruction. Secularists and their allies have marshaled all the forces of mass communication, popular culture, the entertainment industry, and academia in an unremitting assault on religion and traditional values,” he said.

The attorney general drew fire for his remarks, with critics pointing to poverty and even the pharma industry as responsible for the current opioid epidemic in the country.

Barr said the so-called progressives bring about no progress at all. “Those who defy the creed risk a figurative burning at the stake: social, educational, and professional ostracism and exclusion waged through lawsuits and savage social media campaigns,” he said.

The attorney general also commended the Justice Department for its support to religion-based organizations in their pursuit for justice in the courts of laws. Mainly, this has been targeted at helping religious schools and businesses defend their religious rights.

Barr’s invoking of faith at a time President Trump is facing an impeachment enquiry is significant. Among the President’s staunchest allies are evangelical pastors.

Several evangelical leaders held a day of prayers for Trump on Oct. 13. Some of them had earlier issued warnings on the Democrats’ impeachment efforts, suggesting removing Trump from power would lead to a civil-war like situation – a thought echoed by Trump in a tweet.
