A woman accused of cutting off her husband's penis and throwing it into the garbage disposal has had her bail set by an Orange County Superior judge at $1 million.

Judge Debra Carrillo agreed to a continuance in the case and has set Sept.23 as the next hearing for Catherine Kieu, 48, who is being charged with torture and aggravated mayhem.

The judge rejected a request to bar cameras from the courtroom, after Kieu's attorney argued that media coverage would jeopardize Becker's ability for fair trial, CNN reported.

At this stage in the proceeding, I believe what we have before me is a citizen accused and not someone presumed guilty, the judge told the defense in ruling against the camera ban request. She added: There are no threats we're aware of.

After the hearing the Orange County Deputy Public Defender, Frank Bittar said that there was a lot more to this case than meets the eye.

Becker allegedly cooked her husband drugged food. When her husband, 60, passed out, she tied him to the bed.

When he woke up, she took off his pants, cut off his penis, put it in the garbage disposal, and turned on the disposal.

She then called the police, who arrived at the scene to find the husband tied to a bed and bleeding profusely from his crotch area. .

After cutting off his penis, Becker eventually called 911 to ask for medical assistance. Becker told officials that her husband deserved it.

The man was quickly transferred to a hospital where he received emergency surgery. He is now in stable condition.

After officers arrived at the couple's Garden Grove home, Kieu reportedly made a statement to police that her husband deserved it.

The couple had been married since late 2009, but the victim had filed for a divorce in May, citing irreconcilable differences.
