World Bank lowered India's economic growth projection to 4% for financial year 2009-10 from an estimated 5.5% in the year 2008-09, reported the PTI. Last November, the Bank projected a growth of 5.8% for 2009-10.

According to the World Bank, India could witness some recovery in 2010-11 with growth likely to rise to 7%.

The Central Statistical Organisation estimated in February a 7.1% economic growth for 2008-09.
