The New York Yankees on Saturday acquired superstar slugger Giancarlo Stanton in a trade with the Miami Marlins, according to multiple reports. The addition of the National League MVP has oddsmakers feeling good about the Yankees' chances of winning the 2018 World Series.

According to betting site Bovada, the Yankees are now favored ahead of the NL champion Los Angeles Dodgers and the defending World Series champion Houston Astros. The Yankees have +500 odds of winning it all, while the Dodgers and Astros are both listed at +600.

Last season, the Yankees finished with a 91-71 record and reached the American League Championship Series before falling to the Astros in seven games.

Stanton, who will be paired with another right-handed power hitter, Aaron Judge, could again make the Yankees the best home-run hitting teams in baseball. Stanton hit 59 homers in 2017, while Judge hit 52.

Teams have yet to make major free agent signings, so betting odds for the World Series are expected to shift before the start of spring training. Available players include J.D. Martinez, Yu Darvish, Eric Hosmer and Jake Arrieta.

The Los Angeles Angels on Friday added Japanese phenom Shohei Ohtani, who has been among the most coveted foreign players in years. The Angels' odds of winning the World Series are listed at +2,500.

The Cleveland Indians have the fourth-best odds at +750 and are followed by the Washington Nationals and Boston Red Sox, who are both listed at +1,000. After a series of cost-cutting trades during the 2017 season, the Detroit Tigers (+15,000) have the worst odds of winning the World Series.
