The first website in the world, which was built at CERN laboratories in the Swiss Alps, has returned to its original URL at "http://info.cern.ch/hypertext/WWW/TheProject.html.”

According to CERN, "For many years, this URL has been dormant, inactive. It simply redirected to the web host root of http://info.cern.ch

CERN managed to locate archive files dating back to 1992 and placed them back into their original web address. While this isn’t the oldest form of the website, Dan Noyes, a Web manager in the CERN communications group, said, “This may be the earliest copy that we can find, but we're going to keep looking for earlier ones.”

While they try to located older archives of the site, take a look at what the web looked like in 1992.
