The world's highest suspension bridge -- the Baluarte Bridge -- was officially opened in Mexico on Thursday.

The bridge is 1,124 meters (3,687 feet) long, more than 400 meters high, and connects the northwestern state of Sinaloa with Durango and Mazatlan.

The Baluarte Bridge is part of Mexico's elaborate bicentennial celebrations, which mark its independence from Spain in 1810, Reuters reported.
