Robbie Amell and Lauren Ambrose are returning for the upcoming season of “The X-Files.”

According to TVLine, Amell and Ambrose have signed on to reprise their roles as Agent Miller and Agent Einstein in Season 11 of the Fox sci-fi series. Amell and Ambrose both appeared in the final two episodes of last year’s revival, but it remains unclear how many of Season 11’s 10 episodes they will appear in.

Due to Miller and Einstein’s striking resemblance to “The X-Files” lead characters Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson), it was rumored that Fox and series creator Chris Carter were planning to launch an “X-Files” spinoff centered on Miller and Einstein. Carter neither confirmed nor denied the speculation, but he told TVLine in 2015 that the pair’s “X-Files” contracts did not contain “a series deal beyond” the six-episode Season 10.

“People can speculate, but [their pacts] weren’t negotiated that way,” Carter said at the time.

While Ambrose hadn’t heard anything about the potential spinoff from her agents, the actress told TVLine in 2016 that she’s honored just to be part of the mother series. “All I know is it was a great place to work and I would love to do more,” Ambrose said at the time. “I love working with Chris and David and Gillian. They’re all amazing, talented people … and I would like nothing more than to do more.”

Like Ambrose, Amell has also been hoping to do more episodes of “The X-Files” since he finished filming his two-episode stint last season. “My thought process … was like, ‘Well, if there’s another season it looks like I’m part of it [because my character didn’t die],” Amell told Bleeding Cool last year.

“But it’s also the ‘X-Files,’ I mean, it wouldn’t be the strangest thing in the world if I wasn’t there anymore they could easily find a way to get me out so hopefully, knock on wood, I am a part of it if there’s another season.”

Aside from Amell, Ambrose, Duchovny and Anderson, “The X-Files” alums Mitch Pileggi (Walter Skinner), Annabeth Gish (Monica Reyes) and William B. Davis (Cigarette Smoking Man) are also set to return for Season 11.

“The X-Files” Season 11 will premiere midseason on Fox.
