Fans at San Diego Comic-Con were treated to the first look at the some new characters in the upcoming “X-Men: Apocalypse.” With the film promising to bring some of the most notorious mutant villains and heroes to life in 2016, new images give eager fans their first look at some key characters coming from the page to the big screen.

The titular villain in the new movie will be an ancient cosmic being known as Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac). According to CinemaBlend, he will be presented as the “first” real mutant and absurdly powerful. He sees the direction mankind is taking with the discovery of mutants and thinks of himself as a bit of a savior. He reportedly recruits weak-minded heroes like Psylocke (Olivia Munn), Storm (Alexandra Shipp) and Magneto (Fassbender), to aid him as he tries to free mutants from the control of human beings and the supporters of peace like Charles Xavier (James McAvoy).

Finally, after months of waiting, Entertainment Weekly released the exclusive first look at Apocalypse himself in its newest cover, where he is flanked by both Magneto and Psylocke, the latter of whom the world is seeing in full costume for the very first time (assuming you don’t count leaked trailer footage).

The outlet also shared some exclusive first-look images from the upcoming film that include images of Xavier, Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Moira MacTaggert (Rose Byrne), Storm, Magneto, Quicksilver (Evan Peters) and more.

While most of the principal cast in the photos has been featured in other movies such as “X-Men: First Class” and “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” the new additions of Apocalypse and Psylocke were welcomed reveals to comic book fans. Those that read the source material about the X-Men will note that Munn’s costume is shockingly similar to what her character wore on the page, something that doesn’t often happen in the “X-Men” movies.

While appearing on an episode of “Conan” with the rest of the cast at San Diego Comic-Con, the 35-year-old actress revealed that the costume was so difficult to wear that she had to be lubed up by two people to help her get into the costume each day.
