“X-Men: Days of Future Past” director Bryan Singer has revealed the first full glimpse of the movie’s robotic villains, the Sentinels.

Singer tweeted the photo on Thursday, showing himself standing beside the roughly 20-foot-tall robot with the caption, “Here’s to the next 50 years.”

Earlier in the week, Singer unveiled a promotional website for the film’s fictitious Trask Industries. Bolivar Trask, played by “Game of Thrones” star Peter Dinklege, is the inventor of the Sentinels, large robotic war machines designed to hunt down and subdue mutants. The site offered a few glimpses at the Sentinels, but this is the first time fans have been able to see the robots in full.

The “X-Men: First Class” sequel is set in two timelines: the 1970s, roughly a decade after the 2010 X-Men prequel showed the origins of Charles Xavier and his rival Magneto, and the 2020s, a about 10 years after 2006’s “X-Men: The Last Stand.”

The latest installment in the series will feature incarnations from both the original X-Men trilogy as well as the “First Class” prequel, meaning that both Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy will play Professor X across different timelines. The same goes for Michael Fassbender and Ian McKellen, who will both portray Magneto at different points in the film.

In the original 1981 comic book storyline “Days of Future Past,” the X-Men experience a nightmarish post-apocalyptic future where mutants are policed by the Sentinels and forced to live in prison-like camps. X-Man Kitty Pryde has her mind sent back in time to her younger body, at which point she warns her fellow X-Men that a militant mutant group is about to commit an assassination that will lead to her future. X-Men across both timelines work together to prevent the future from ever occurring.

At Comic-Con 2013, producers announced that Wolverine will take the place of Kitty Pride in “X-Men: Days of Future Past” as Hugh Jackman’s character has his mind sent back in time to warn the X-Men.
