Xbox One
The Xbox One will go on sale Nov. 21, according to a game developer. Microsoft

The Official Xbox Magazine has confirmed the Xbox One will not ship with a headset. We wonder whether Microsoft's decision to not include a headset with its $499 next-gen console could hurt sales and pre-orders numbers. Meanwhile, the PS4 will ship with an earbud that has a microphone built in, as opposed to a traditional headset.

It's important to note, however, that Xbox One gamers will be able to talk to their friends via Kinect, which is included with every new Xbox One console. However, many gamers are concerned about the prospect of Kinect snooping on them, which has even led Congress to take action in order to prevent such intrusions.

Aside from the privacy issues, it also remains to be seen how well Kinect can differentiate between you talking to people who are physically around you, you talking to people you're gaming with via Kinect and you barking out commands to Kinect. Add in some family members, a pet and other noise from around the house, and it's easy to see how Kinect could fall flat on its face as an alternative to a tried-and-true headset. We won't know for sure how well Kinect will fare in real-world situations until the Xbox One ships though.

Both the Xbox One and PS4 are slated to be released sometime this coming holiday season and likely before Black Friday, the busiest shopping day of the year.

What do you think of Microsoft's decision to not include a headset with the Xbox One? Does it play a factor in your decision to buy the Xbox One or PS4? Why or why not? Do you have any concerns about Kinect possibly snooping on you, your home and your family? Sound off in the comments below.
