Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure feels that Manchester City has all the elements in it to be as good as Spanish champion Barcelona.

Toure believes that Manchester City will prove that they are also worthy of a place among the biggest European clubs this season.

“Last season I was asked to compare City to my former club Barcelona. I responded by saying that I thought City could be as good as Barca one day,” Toure told the Daily Star Sunday. “When I said City could be as good, I truly believed it and I still do.”

The Ivorian joined City from Champions League winners Barcelona last summer and had a promising first season when the club finished fourth in the Premier League.

“We have a way to go to match those teams but it is our aim” Toure said. “With the ambition that the club has shown in the last few seasons and the way we are improving as a group, I think other clubs are now starting to take notice of the new Manchester City.”

Toure said that Roberto Mancini’s side had shown that the team can match the best in the premier league and now the team has to do the same in Europe, according to an ESPN report.

Yaya Toure signed a five-year deal with Manchester City for a fee of around £24 million ($39 million) from Barcelona. The Ivorian has made 34 appearances for City and scored six times.
