The official release of first photo of The Dark Knight Rises character 'Catwoman' by Warner Bros has set the Web ablaze.

In the photo, Catwoman, aka Selina Kyle, is equipped with goggles, gloves and utility belt but no high heels or stiletto shoes, thereby making Catwoman looking less sexy than her previous avatars.

However, the costume looks more practical and realistic, matching the themes of the film.

Some fans of Catwoman may also be disappointed by the fact that the costume doesn't look cat-like at all. "Her goggles have slightly pointed ends, which may be -- maybe -- supposed to be vaguely Catwoman-ish or something," Rob Bricken of Nerd Blog Topless Robot posts. "But...well...I'm not feeling it."

On the Internet, a heated discussion also buzzed on whether Hathaway is the right choice for portraying Catwoman or not. Michelle Pfieffer and Halle Berry played the role of Catwoman in previous movies.

Meanwhile, despite the criticism, Hathaway is very optimistic. "I was not going to admit it: I asked someone to send me a few reactions [to the photo]," the actress told MTV. "And I happen to know that MTV's reaction was 'meh.'"

"What I am happy to say is, if you didn't like the photo, you only see about a 10th of what that suit can do," Hathaway promised. "And if you did like the photo, you have excellent taste."

However, Hathaway still has a year to prove herself as "The Dark Knight Rises" releases next summer in theaters.
