YouTube personality Shay Carl Butler has been much more open with his fans since posting an apology video to his self-titled channel last month, but it seems he’s still trying to keep some things private.

Recently, the Shaytards vlogger posted a message to Twitter stating that his wife, Colette Butler, kicked him out of their home after drinking. Shay, an admitted alcoholic, later deleted the tweet and explained his actions to fans.

“Yeah I screwed up and drank the night before dropping my cousin off at rehab,” Shay posted. “My mom disowned me for it and my wife kicked me out of the house… so the rest of ya’ll can just go [expletive] yourselves… lol!”

After deleting the message, Shay told one fan he did so “because my mom asked me to.”

Shay also admitted to another Twitter follower that he felt his Mormon religion caused him to abuse alcohol in secret. “I believe it caused the secrecy of my use which required binging to accommodate the lie of my use,” he explained.

The Shaytards family has had quite the dramatic year. In February, Shay announced to his followers he would be taking an indefinite break from the internet in order to seek help for his issues with alcohol. At the same time, it was revealed by cam girl Aria Nina that the two had been having an alleged online affair for three months.

Shay’s wife, Colette, was the first to return to YouTube following the scandal. In her September return video, titled “Letting a Dream Die,” she didn’t address her husband’s issues but did comment on her challenging year.

“Life happens. It’s been hard. Our relationship’s been messy. Our lives have been messy and that’s just the truth of it and I’m not afraid of that,” she said.

Colette went on to further address her struggles on her shared channel The Mom’s View the following month. “Obviously, I haven’t been on YouTube for a very long time,” she told viewers. “This has been a crazy year for me. It’s been a gift, honestly.”

While Shay has not made a return to his family YouTube channel, he has been posted videos to his personal channel. On Nov. 16, he posted a public apology to viewers and his family regarding his alcohol abuse. He followed up on Nov. 28 and 29 with two videos documenting his journey dropping off his cousin Tyler, a self-admitted drug addict, to Narconon Ojai rehab in California, the same facility where he received treatment.

“I’m tired of myself suffering from addiction, from alcoholism and from the choices, the bad horrible choices I’ve made. It causes pain to yourself and it causes pain to your families and to your loved ones,” Shay said in the first video.

In the second video, Shay disclosed that he “got drunk” the night before dropping off his cousin at the center and said one of his biggest fears is relapsing.
