Yum! Brands’ Taco Bell division will revamp its website and digital marketing, announcing on Tuesday it has hired its first digital agency to take on those tasks.

New York-based R/GA will take on strategic and creative duties for the brand after demonstrating it had the right ideas for the job, according a senior manager at the Yum! division.

R/GA presented “a variety of breakthrough strategic ideas rooted in sharp consumer insights,” said Lyle Swart, Sr. Manager, Brand Communications, Taco Bell in a released statement.

R/GA’s CEO and chief executive Bob Greenberg described Taco Bell as a “vibrant and youth-driven brand,” saying the agency would use its knowledge of social media and emerging platforms to reach the restaurant chain’s audience.

The firm’s San Francisco office will be handling the account.

Correction: The article on Yum! Brands' Taco Bell hiring of a digital agency published on August 4, 2009 misspelled the last name of the firm's chief executive, Lyle Swart. Also, the agency's name is spelled with all capitals, R/GA.
