After what was, without a doubt, one of the craziest adventures in television history, the survivors of Syfy’s “Z Nation” have finally reached the end of their journey. However, just because they’ve delivered their package to the CDC outpost in California doesn’t mean that humanity is out of danger just yet.
Last week saw the remaining members of Operation Bite Mark finally reach their GPS destination in California. They were expecting a CDC outpost with Dr. Merch (Lisa Coronado) waiting for them, but only found an abandoned restaraunt occupied by a sweet old lady -- who just so happened to be packing a giant sub machine gun behind the counter. The audience was left on a cliffhanger wondering if the CDC had fallen and the gang had walked humanity’s last hope for a cure, Murphy (Keith Allan), into a trap.
Fortunately, a teaser clip for the Season 2 finale sheds some light on this particular question. It opens with Murphy disguised from head to toe as a woman. Operation Bite Mark is inside the restaurant along with some mysterious-looking strangers with a zombie that’s chained up. It becomes clear that the strangers are mercenaries that think they’ve captured the one true Murphy. Fans will recall that Citizen Z (DJ Qualls) told everyone still alive with a radio signal that they need to get Murphy to the CDC center in California alive for a major reward. When the mercenaries discover the real Murphy, the gang springs into action in a pretty tense and violent fight. When it’s all over, the old woman pulls her sub machine gun and reveals that they’d come to the right place.
However, the restaurant is clearly not the CDC outpost, and it seems that Op B is neither done with their journey nor free of its enemies according to the episode’s official TV Guide plot synopsis:
“The heroes seem to be nearing the end of their adventure when, in the Season 2 finale, they drive through the abandoned city of Los Angeles on their way to the mobile CDC lab, where Dr. Merch awaits their arrival. Meanwhile, the Zeros are hot on Murphy and the gang’s heels.”
It looks like the survivors and audience are in for one more thrill ride as the gang digs in for the last few miles of its journey. With the fate of humanity hanging in the balance and Murphy as reluctant as ever to become the world’s lab rat, fans will just have to tune in to the “Z Nation” Season 2 finale on Friday at 10:00 p.m. EST to see how it all shakes out.
