For the first time in the series’ history, Syfy’s “Z Nation” will be getting a bit of star power in the form of “Game of Thrones” book author George R.R. Martin. It was previously reported that the mind behind the incredibly popular “Game of Thrones” series would guest star on the camp zombie show as himself… Sort of.

In the preview clip for the Oct. 30th episode (below), the 67-year-old author will play a version of himself that didn’t quite survive the zombie apocalypse and now sits in the museum of a deranged collector. Martin is the collector’s first “Celebrity Z,” having smuggled him out of a Comic Con just after the outbreak began in 2011. Now, to tease Martin’s guest role on episode 8 of Season 2, series co-creator Craig Engler is taking to Twitter to share a few behind-the-scenes shots of the author getting all zombified for the episode.

The last of these photos shows Martin chained to a table where his zombie corpse is forced to use its muscle memory to perpetually sign copy after copy of “A Promise of Spring.” Entertainment Weekly first took notice of the fake book title and commented on its subtle wink to the “Song of Ice and Fire” series’ expected seventh, and final, book “A Dream of Spring.” Obviously, “Z Nation” exists in its own timeline as, within the canon of the show, the world would have ended just after Season 1 of the HBO series aired. With Martin not even done writing book 6 in real life, it would appear that his zombie corpse has been hunting and pecking away at a keyboard to round out the series. It’s probably not a risk to say that the book is more than likely riddled with spelling errors and references to the deliciousness of brains. Still, the author meant it as a sign of hope for fans eagerly anticipating the rest of his work.

“I just want to prove to my fans that even in the zombie apocalypse, the 'Song of Ice and Fire' books will still come out!” he said in a statement to the outlet.

The author recently teased his appearance on his personal blog under the headline “All Men Must Die.”

“…but only a few get to come back as the UNDEAD. But hey, I’m one of them,” he wrote while plugging his appearance. “No doubt Emmys will follow.”

You can catch a clip of Martin’s performance below and tune into “Z Nation,” Season 2, episode 8 on Friday at 10 p.m. EDT on Syfy to see if the noted author escapes his captor.
