Andrew Wyeth, Christina's World American painter, and one of the best-known American paintings of the 20th century died yesterday morning in his sleep at Chadd Ford, Pa.

He died in just the sort of weather he loved, the empty cold and the sharp sunlight of the dead of winter.

Wyeth, 91, is survived by his wife and two sons. Funeral services will be private. A public memorial service is being planned at the Brandywine River Museum.

Christina's World can be seen at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
