Will Apple iPhone 4S have hybrid GSM-CDMA?

Is Apple gearing up for the release of a global iPhone with added capability of connecting to both GSM and CDMA? A new report provides evidence that supports the rumor.

Japanese site MacOtakara said the CDMA iPhone 4 for Verizon Wireless will be the base for the so-called 'iPhone 4S', and the new device will feature hybrid GSM-CDMA functionality and a SIM card slot for countries except United States.

The report also claimed that the iPhone 4S will come with a more narrow front receiver slit, along with a smaller FaceTime camera. It also stated that the next iPhone avatar will also feature an antenna for the 5Ghz wavelength of 802.11n wireless networking.

According to numerous sources, the next iPhone - iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 (whatever it is being called) will feature only slight modifications from its predecessor. It is believed that the production of the next generation of iPhone will begin in August ahead of a September or October release.

Analysts expect that the phone's processor will be upgraded to the faster A5 processor already used in the iPad2. Speculations have been made that the new iPhone will also include a higher resolution 8 megapixel rear camera.
