“People should realize that I am a normal person who is courageous but also anxious.” Almost like a phrase from a movie, most people would not attribute these words to a highly successful entrepreneur who controls a nine-figure company. However, those are the exact words that Matthias Siems, founder of Taru Group, stated when asked what he wanted people to know about him. In a “fake it to you make it” world where internet gurus, celebrities, and business leaders are often praised for showing off their luxurious and perfect lives, Siems believes that more people would benefit from practicing self-awareness and authenticity.

Since he was a child, Siems has always had an urge to become a successful entrepreneur. And despite a hard upbringing, he managed to accomplish his goals. By the time he was in college, he had already launched several business ventures - including a horse grooming product that he had patented and distributed to several well-known sporting stores. As he grew older, he became enamored with the life of successful people. “I loved being around rich people and seeing how they lived.” However, after studying the lives of the wealthy, he realized they were no different from him. “They were just like ordinary people, but they knew how to add 1+1.” This realization led him to focus on himself and take business more seriously.

For Siems, the first step in building his wealth was self-awareness. Many people chase the wrong things in life and that can be costly. He learned this the hard way. “At the beginning of my career, I had a goal to be a billionaire. This goal caused me to make poor decisions and I lost everything. I went from extremely wealthy to ordinary. That was important because it taught me how quickly you can lose everything and how chasing money is not a good purpose.” Following this setback, he was able to build back his business by focusing on what he cared about. “Ever since I was young, I’ve wanted to help develop technology that would improve healthcare.” This decision led him to start investing in the healthcare industry. Although he was passionate about medicine and health innovation, he realized that there were others with better training and experience than he had. By having the self-awareness to find his purpose and reach out to others, he has been able to help dozens of startups around the world using their expertise and his funding to transform the healthcare industry by developing innovative technology to combat health issues - primarily in the cardiovascular area.

The second step in building his wealth was authenticity. Although Siems is very successful, he does not live to impress others. He is content to spend his time and resources on what matters to him. “I think one of the biggest things that often comes with success is arrogance and selfishness.” For Siems, he believes it is important to combat the desire to show off for others and to look down on those who do not have the same success. “I know how easy it is to lose everything. That experience reminded me to be kind to everyone, no matter where they are in life.” He also stated that it is important to be modest. “Materialistic modesty is one of the most significant recommendations I can give if you are exceptionally successful.” By avoiding a materialistic lifestyle, he believes that you will avoid a lot of unnecessary negativity. “Everything visible leads to the reaction of people you don’t want to deal with. Some people will become envious.” By avoiding these distractions, you are able to focus on attracting people into your life and your business that are positive and align with your values.

Perhaps as a result of his authenticity, he has developed another strong superpower - the ability to break down the most complex facts and concepts so anyone can understand them. Whether listening to a new business idea, explaining a deal to a new investor or reiterating a complex technology, he is able to speak with clarity so that any of his listeners can comprehend what he is saying. In a space where big words and industry jargon can often confuse those that aren’t familiar, one can certainly see how this can be a helpful ability to have.

Matthias Siems built his empire simply by being himself. Whether looking to partner with someone on a multi-million dollar deal, give them an encouraging word, or connect them to someone in his extensive network, he treats them all the same - as a brother. “I provide founders and visionaries with a network and a platform where they can act very successfully in a short period of time. I am like a brother who gives you what you need to be stronger and faster.” He does this because he is focused on helping others, not making as much money as possible. Clearly, this method has worked. With a nine-figure business, a beautiful family, and a company enabling innovative growth in the healthcare industry, it is clear that Siems approach has certainly paid off.
